Dual Treatment

Dual Treatment

Dual treatment is recommended for children with severe autism. The QST therapist and parent partner to provide the massage to the child. Parents learn to deliver the massage and do so daily for 15 minutes (see Parent Training). The therapist sees the child once or twice a week and provides the “therapist” version of the massage, which supplements and reinforces the parent version.

Dual treatment

Dual Treatment is typically scheduled in time series.

Weeks 1-5: Parents learn the massage and bring their child in for massage 1-2 times a week

Weeks 6-10: Parents treat the child at home

Weeks 11-16: The child returns for 1-2 times a week for massage with the therapist while the parents continue massage at home.

This series of visits mirrors the process followed in the original QST research. Depending on the needs of the child and family, the timing can be adjusted. Consult your therapist.

If you are beginning Dual Treatment in our clinic, please complete the QST forms and bring them to your first visit.
