Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is a natural approach to treating a wide range of health concerns. Chinese herbs are prescribed in customized formulas which address the unique mix of health concerns presented by any individual client. Chinese herbal medicines can be taken internally, or in some cases are applied externally, as compresses or tinctures.

Formulas typically contain between 10-15 herbs, which come from the Chinese materia medica, which includes over 2,000 medicinals. Herbs can be used to treat acute disorders (e.g., colds, flu) or chronic conditions (e.g., migraines, asthma, menstrual irregularities). Herbal formulas can be safely taken by children as well as adults.

herbsTo support overall wellness, herbal formulas can be prescribed which boost immunity, balance emotions, address deficiencies and treat chronic pain.

Chinese herbal formulas can only be administered by trained Chinese medical practitioners, who receive education in both Chinese medical diagnosis and Western biomedicine, including drug-herb interactions. Practitioners in Massachusetts must be licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine, and receive over 750 clinical hours of supervised training.

Chinese herbal medicinal formulas are extensively researched, safe and highly effective when supervised by a licensed herbalist, and sourced from FDA supervised herbal pharmacies in Colorado and California. Formulas are dispensed via a raw herb prescription, tablets or capsules, tinctures, or patents.

Our clinic favors tinctures for children with a glycerin base. We source our pediatric herbal formulas exclusively from Kan Herbs and Blue Poppy Herbs.
